Where Does Joe Biden Stand On...?
Joe Biden has, self-admittedly, "had a target on his back" since the outset of the campaign, but with a sole nominee, we can take time to examine more closely his political platform. Here are some positions on various key election issues:
1. He supports 2 years of free community college, free public university education for anyone whose household brings in less than $125k a year, doubling of the maximum Pell Grant value, halving the max amount of income garnishment for loan payment, and complete forgiveness after 20 years.
2. He supports carbon neutrality by 2050; a ban on offshore oil drilling, coal, pipelines, and other forms of fossil fuel exploitation, first on government land and then nationwide; and the protection of 30% of the nation's wilderness in national parks.
3. He supports a ban on assault rifles; a ban on online weapons sales; a system of universal background checks; and an ability to hold weapons companies civilly liable.
4. He supports increased pay and student loan forgiveness for educators; increased funding for school infrastructure; more counselors and other health professionals in schools; and closing the gap between mostly-black and mostly-white school districts.
5. He supports keeping families together at the border; allowing temporary protected status for refugees from violence and natural disasters; and ending the Trump Middle-Eastern travel ban.
6. He supports banning torture; abolishing the death penalty; investing in preventative treatment of substance abuse and mental health disorders; ending racial disparities in incarceration; ending jail for drug addiction; decriminalizing marijuana and expunging all previous convictions in addition to legalizing medical marijuana; and ending cash bail and private prisons.
7. He supports expanding black rights through investing in voting, education, prison and healthcare reform, infrastructure, and environmental justice.
8. He supports allowing trans military service; enacting an LGBTQIA+ Equality Act in his first 100 days in office; adding a nonbinary option on IDs to assist in housing and healthcare; ending a ban on MSM blood donation; and preventing and prosecuting hate crimes.
These are a few of his many ambitious goals, a serious blow to those who feel he is not ambitious enough and a direct contradiction to those who question his interest in American progress. All info can be found here.
