The Trump-Clinton Hypocrisy

Benghazi was a travesty that never should have happened. How many Americans did it kill? 4. The COVID-19 pandemic? Nearing 200,000. The difference? Donald Trump can easily be traced back to the mismanagement and spread of this virus. A brief summary is all that is necessary, for I have written on the issue extensively in previous posts. Donald Trump dismantled the pandemic response team in 2018, pulled the United States out of WHO, and sat on the report for 4 months before claiming the virus was a hoax for a month. He now continues to claim it will magically disappear and has pushed for reopening, threatening to cut funding to states that don't while simultaneously bragging about using federal funds to put kids in private schools. The GOP has sued to stop mask mandates and stay-at-home orders, and Trump has made racial remarks that led to an increase in hate crimes, suggested using a flu vaccine or injecting oneself with disinfectant, tried to buy the vaccine development, bragged about his ratings and wondered why he wasn't as popular as Dr. Fauci, and threatened to hold back ventilators to states that weren't nice to him. The 2017 hurricane season? 3,000 dead, the same as 9/11, with NGOs banned from helping, Puerto Rican politicians attacked at every turn, and ravaged communities left without real help for months or even years while the commander-in-chief used the throwing of paper towels as a publicity stunt. On the other hand, the numerous investigations into Hillary's emails found zero evidence of any wrongdoing and she has yet to be convicted of a crime. The Mueller report indicted six close Trump advisors (over a dozen have been convicted of various felonies, including campaign finance violations) and led to impeachment.

Bill Clinton was impeached in 1997 for lying about a sexual relationship with aid Monica Lewinski. Unlike Trump, however, he made no efforts to stop witnesses from testifying or to commit impeachable offenses while on trial, and the same Republicans (everyone is looking at Lindsey Graham) who called for Clinton's impeachment called for leniency on Trump. The difference? Trump was on trial for working with a foreign nation to undercut the foundations of democracy and change the outcome of the 2020 election. And to those who claim they are simply prudes trying to protect the dignity of America's high offices, Trump's 30 allegations of sexual assault, admission on video that he grabs women by the pussy, calling his daughter hot, three affairs that led to three divorces from three wives, and hush money payments to porn stars are hard to ignore.

Trump founded a charity that spent $25,000 on a portrait and was shut down for fraud while his family took money from a cancer charity. The Clintons founded a charity geared towards human rights and environmental protection that is impacting lives.

The difference in the bigger picture? Bill Clinton cut crime by 25%, presided over the only budget surpluses in the past 50 years, and presided over a period of sustained economic growth that wasn't met with a deep recession. In short, Bill and Hillary Clinton are what the country needs, but Donald Trump remains an icon to the uneducated minority.
