Trump's Pathetic Responses To 9/11
Donald Trump has had some pretty pathetic responses to 9/11 over the past few years, all of which showcase a growing sense of self-importance and a diminishing grasp on reality.
2015 was a big year for him, the one in which he launched his campaign to be president. It was also a big year for his crackpot 9/11 statements. He claimed that thousands of people were cheering after the towers fell, a complete lie to push Republican paranoia that all people who look different than an old white man are infidels who seek to cause America harm, easily spoon-fed to their troop of ignoramuses. He also claimed to have persponally witnessed people jumping. Nevermind that his apartment was over 4 miles away... he took a tragic event and tried to make it about himself.
He has since increasingly tried to claim that he was a critical part of the 9/11 response. In 2016, he said, "I helped [clear the rubble] a little bit." That last part designed to diminish one's ability to interpret his statement as a lie would be almost entertaining if it weren't so, well, pathetic. In 2019, he said, "I'm not considering myself a first responder," again, making it about himself, "But I was down there with all of you." No, he wasn't.
He also felt it necessary to mention that his building was the tallest after the Twin Towers fell. While it is mentioned by the interviewer, Trump took it in the context of the terrorists from Al Qaeda viewing Trump as important enough to hijack a plane for. The World Trade Centers were international places of business and beacons of American prosperity, which is why they were targeted. Trump didn't seem to understand that he represents only the idle rich and their many vices.
All of these have an underlying theme of narcissism, the kind that makes you pump your fists on the way to a 9/11 memorial. Pathetic.
