Bill Clinton's Impressive Legacy

Republicans have lambasted Bill Clinton for decades, yet his presidency was a relatively good one when compared to those of the Bushes. His presidential ranking has increased in the past few years, and he is now considered an "above average" rather than an "average" president.

After attending Georgetown, University College, Oxford, and Yale, he served as the attorney general of Arkansas before being elected governor. In that position, he reduced the cost of medication for elderly citizens, created more tax exemptions for homes, improved the state's infrastructure and overhauled its education system, and served as the chair of the National Governors Association.

During his presidency, he created job-protected leave for pregnancy and serious illness, lifted imposed restrictions on family planning (which resulted in a 20% decline in abortion), cut taxes on millions of small businesses and families while raising them for the top 1%, mandated background checks and the 5-day waiting period for guns, expanded subsidies for low-income workers, signed NAFTA into law, banned all assault rifles for 10 years, launched the first sex offender registries, put in place the first rape shield laws, founded the Domestic Violence Hotline, instituted a 3-strikes law against violent felons, oversaw a 25% reduction in crime, increased efforts against disability-related hate crimes, launched the first government websites, became the first president to advocate for gay rights and appoint openly-gay advisors, ended the Bosnian War, created peace in Ireland, worked to create peace within the Middle East, appointed Stephen Breyer and Ruth Bader Ginsburg to the Supreme Court, and oversaw four years of budget surplus (the only years in the past 50) and a continuous economic growth that is now the second-longest in history. Upon leaving office, he had the highest fourth-quarter approval rating of any president in American history.

Upon leaving office, he has dedicated his time to charity and human and environmental rights with the Clinton Foundation.

While Clinton should and has been condemned for lying to Congress about his affair with Monica Lewinsky, it should be noted that his sex with a consenting adult was nothing like Trump's dozens of cases of sexual assault, three affairs with three wives, and hush money payments to porn stars; Bill Clinton never prevented witnesses from testifying or actively obstructed the investigation like Trump did; and Clinton's blowjob did not involve blackmailing a foreign nation to extend his tenure in office.

In the areas Republicans profess to care about most-- law and order, economic growth, and low government spending-- Bill Clinton surpassed the mark and signed into law legislation that both parties could be happy about. Perhaps that was his greatest achievement: working not for himself or for his party, but working for everyone to create real change. And yet he has been crucified at every point simply based on his political affiliation by the party that plays victim when the same happens to them. Sheer hypocrisy is the only m.o. that seems to work for the ol' Red Ellies.
