Biden Ends New Oil And Gas Leases, Calls Global Carbon Neutrality Conference

 

     The federal government owns nearly 30% of American land as well as all of the nation's oceans. In a huge announcement, President Joe Biden has ended new oil and gas leases on federal territory, meaning that all new offshore oil drilling will cease and massive fossil fuel projects, especially in the West, will have to be cancelled. 

     President Biden, in his first week in office, also ordered all government agencies to undo Trump's environmental rollbacks, cancelled the Keystone XL Pipeline, and protected the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from fossil fuel exploration. 

     Biden has called for rebuilding the nation in an eco-friendly matter, including carbon neutrality by 2035. His other major climate announcement called for a new global climate conference to set a goal for world carbon neutrality.

     This sweeping action has positioned Biden to be the most ambitious American president in terms of fighting climate change.
