How The 2020 Election Showed The Soul Of Georgia

The gubernatorial election in 2018 showed the worst of Georgia. Brian Kemp, an uneducated white man, used his position as secretary of state to suppress black votes and steal the election from Stacey Abrams. He ran on hatred and division.

2020, however, showed the best of Georgia. With the killing of Ahmaud Arbery, Georgia became a contentious state in the racial tensions of the year. Stacey Abrams applied herself once again, and mobilizing black voters, turned negative emotions into positive energy that helped hand Joe Biden the White House and handed him control of the Senate.

2018 showed the division and racism that still exists there. 2020 showed that Georgia is a diverse state of passionate people willing to vote for something that means to them, for racial justice and democracy. Joe Biden ran on restoring the soul of the nation, but the soul of Georgia, at least, has shown its true good nature.
