Progressive Organizations To Support

 

     In Wisconsin and many other states, as well as at the federal level, work is already underway for the 2022 midterms.

     Wisconsin, in particular, is in need of major organizing. With open racists and homophobes holding elected office, rights for all are relatively limited. In 2011, gerrymandering kept the Republican Party in power for 12 years despite public opinion shifting dramatically. Ron Johnson, by blocking the COVID relief checks and opposing the election, has earned the title of "worst senator in America."

     Stacey Abrams flipped Georgia through her progressive organizing. Here are some fantastic organizations to support in Wisconsin:

1. WisDems: The official Democratic Party of Wisconsin, recent programs were launched to organize at campuses and the local level while working to defeat Ron Johnson and reelect Tammy Baldwin.

2. Fair Wisconsin: This organization is advocating for equality for the LGBT2SQIA+ community in Wisconsin through political campaigning, lobbying, and public outreach.

3. Wisconsin Democracy Campaign: This local coalition works to expand voting rights and empowerment in Wisconsin by advocating for new, fair election maps and seeking to grant voting rights to reformed criminals.

4. NCADP: While the death penalty has been illegal in Wisconsin almost since its founding, this is the perfect place to work to spread the fight for a more fair criminal justice system nationwide.

5. Marijuana Policy Project: Unlike its neighbors, Wisconsin has no legal medical marijuana or decriminalized personal use marijuana. There has been some signs of hope, and we need to work with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle on this common sense issue.

     The Democratic Party and liberal issues already have a majority in Wisconsin, and supporting these organizations can make sure our voices are heard!
