A Dozen Landmark Bills Making Their Way Through Congress

 

     As of right now, there are a number of bills before Congress to satisfy the ambitious agenda that President Biden has laid out:

1. A federal decriminalization of marijuana.

2. The legislation of DACA and a path to citizenship for childhood arrivals, also known as the DREAM Act.

3. A bill to make Washington, D.C. the 51st state. Puerto Rican statehood is also being discussed.

4. The abolition of the federal and military death penalty.

5. An increase in the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

6. The Equality Act, which would be the most significant LGBT2SQIA+ rights legislation in American history. Other bills would ban conversion therapy and protect adoption rights.

7. The John Lewis Voting Rights Act, designed to end voter suppression in states like Georgia and Texas.

8. This is on top of the impeachment of Donald Trump, the cabinet confirmation process, and the bills providing coronavirus relief and containment.
