Lawmakers, Capitol Officers, And Seditionists Can Bankrupt Trump

Donald Trump will likely spend the last years of his life fighting lawsuits and criminal charges in courts across the country. Already facing criminal probes in Georgia, New York, and possibly Washington, D.C., legal suits are ramping up, from unpaid rally debt to slander and sexual assault allegations.

The Capitol riot could plague Trump financially, aside from its role in totally tarnishing his legacy and likely preventing him from running ever again. A lawmaker is filing a lawsuit, arguing that Trump conspired with the Proud Boys to prevent the discharge of duty. If Trump were to lose or settle in this case, it could expose him to criminal charges.

The impeachment, in which even Republicans suggested Trump should face civil ramifications, has opened the floodgate. If Officer Sicknick's family, the families of the dead rioters, Capitol police, and even lawmakers were to file a civil suit for emotional distress and slander, they could bankrupt Trump. Even people facing federal charges have renounced Trump and claimed they were misled, so they might be willing to sue for appearance' sake.

     Not a bad idea.
