President Biden Begins Advocating For LGBTQ Rights Abroad
President Biden was the first elected executive in the United States to run on a platform of full equality for the LGBTQ. He appointed Pete Buttigieg the youngest cabinet member and first openly-gay cabinet member. He signed a pair of executive orders implementing a ban on discrimination against the LGBTQ and ending the Trump administration's ban on transgender service members. Finally, he has expressed support for landmark legislation like the Equality Act. That happened in two weeks.
Now, he has taken his continued fight abroad. He has reordered the flying of pride flags at United States embassies, and he has also announced that he will appoint a special LGBTQI envoy, an impactful position that was not filled during the Trump administration. He has also pledged to pass a law making this position permanent and expanding America's advocacy.
In his first weeks in office, President Joseph Biden has kept nearly every promise he made to the LGBT2SQIA+ community, and more progress will be made in the coming months and years.
