Foxconn... Another Embarrassing Flub For Wisconsin Trumpublicans

Foxconn, the Taiwanese company that, under an agreement by Governor Walker, will take hundreds of millions of gallons of water from Lake Michigan on a constant basis to make phone screens, was hailed as the "Eighth Wonder of the world," when Donald Trump visited Mount Pleasant in 2019. They promised to create 13,000 jobs for Wisconsin; Trump kept his promise to bring back manufacturing jobs, they said.

What a load of bullshit. More liberal members of the community were suspicious of the project from the beginning, and this concern turned out to be justified. 13,000 jobs? No. In fact, less than 1,500 jobs have been created by the project. Republicans have a history of doing this. The Keystone XL Pipeline that inspired a decade-long political fight over what they claimed would be thousands of jobs turned into 1,200 and then 100-400 permanent jobs. Hardly worth giving Native elders felony convictions and polluting delicate ecosystems, unless you are a heartless bastard.

Foxconn's economic contribution has been so bad that, since the beginning, it has failed to qualify for tax credits, $4 billion of taxpayer money that Walker handed them, and the COVID-19 pandemic didn't make things any better. This forced Governor Evers to get involved with negotiations between the corporation and the WEDC, a matter that was ultimately settled in April 2021. This is just another in a series of embarrassing defeats for Wisconsin Trumpublicans.

Bringing Trump to Kenosha to side with people like Kyle Rittenhouse couldn't help him win the 2020 electoral votes from Wisconsin, and Trump has since gone on to denounce Speaker Robin Vos and Senate Majority Leader Devin LaMaheiu, among others, for not being loyal enough to him in another rambling, 150 Lexile website post likely viewed by about as many people.

Make no mistake: Foxconn is just one in a string of embarrassing flubs for Wisconsin Republicans whose sole mission is to try to obstruct the will of the people on behalf of the corporate boots they lick and racist legs they hump.
