The Build Back Better Act Will Make Education More Affordable

The Build Back Better Act is the most wide-reaching, liberal bill in American history. It will make the largest investment in fighting climate change in American history, essentially provide universal childcare, lower the cost of prescription drug prices, expand healthcare for 10 million Americans, cut child poverty in half, fund care for millions of older Americans, make the largest investment in housing in American history, and overhaul the nation's immigration system, among countless other provisions. It will also invest in America's education system.

The Build Back Better Act is a racial justice bill through and through. It will reduce the high black uninsured rate, end the black maternal health crisis, give 40 percent of clean energy benefits to disadvantaged communities, and more. Its biggest education benefits, therefore, will also go to communities of color. Specifically, the Build Back Better Act will fulfill President Biden's promise to give nearly $20 billion in extra funding to HBCUs, TCUs, HSIs, and other MSIs.

The Build Back Better Act, however, will do much more. It will increase the Pell Grant by ten percent, the biggest boost in decades. It will also expand access to millions of immigrants better known as DREAMers, another racial justice victory that will allow new Americans to further their education. The Build Back Better Act will also nearly double America's investment in hiring and educating teachers while boosting funding for community colleges and apprenticeship programs.

The Build Back Better Act will make education accessible for millions of Americans for years to come. It's time for the Senate to follow the House's lead and pass this landmark legislation.
