In Spite of his Best Attempts to Delay and Deflect, Alex Jones is Going to Lose Everything

Alex Jones is one of the most despicable human beings to ever exist. Infowars has been around since well before Trump's name was mentioned as a presidential candidate because of his activity on Twitter. They took advantage of the surge in right-wing white supremacy that emerged after the election of Barack Obama in 2008 and brought much of that sentiment into mainstream conservatism alongside movements like the Tea Party. The man is a traitor who spoke to the crowd at the Ellipse on January 6th, a speech that helped rile up far-right extremists who served as the cover for militant groups like the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys to attempt to overthrow the government.

He claimed that free speech got crucified when he failed to show up to court and a summary judgement against him was granted in not one, not two, not three, but four separate cases. He could have had his day in court and instead decided to make a mockery of civil procedure and then cry foul when he had to pay the price. He refused to sit down for a deposition until he faced hundreds oof thousands of dollars in fines and the threat of jail time; the money he paid would be returned after he finally sat down. The man claimed he was sick as an excuse to not show up to court twice, but was apparently not too sick to host an episode of his podcast. All of this stems from the Sandy Hook shootings, the mass murder of small children and their teacher and administrators by a crazed gunman. Jones claimed that these grieving families were crisis actors, that they were paid by the Deep State. The result was pretty obvious: some of his fringe movement followers began stalking and harassing these families and revictimizing them before being sent to prison where they belong. A clear lie with clear malicious motives and clear damages makes a clear case for defamation.

With the default judgements issued in four cases in Connecticut and Texas representing 11 total plaintiffs, the only reason a trial is being held is to decide how much these families should be paid. With what the shooter put them through and with what Alex Jones put them through, his salt on their wounds, not a single plaintiff should ever have to work again. They should be free to grieve and, as they have done so bravely in the past decade, should be free to carry the names of their children as a rallying cry for an end to gun violence. Jones' latest move: file for bankruptcy on Infowars. That's great news. In name at least, Infowars can join Remington and the NRA in being disbanded as punishment for their predatory role in mass murder. However, it is a clear attempt at getting rid of assets to avoid having to pay a substantial amount to these families. Let's hope the judge, who has proven herself to be fair in the case since it began, can see through this abuse of the bankruptcy system.

Have a clue, Alex: your $1.3 million settlement offer to avoid discovery did not work, and now you're going to lose millions for what you put these families through. In spite of his best attempts to delay and deflect, Alex Jones is going to lose everything he has. He has a net worth of $5 million to $10 million, and his legal battle and settlement sum are going to liquidize that. That's on top of his claims that his wife is abusing him (which I do not condone but also can't say I sympathize with him for) and that his health is deteriorating (in no small part due to his weight, surely). Alex Jones can join Rudy Giuliani, Mike Lindell, Tina Peters, and a small cast of others who threw their lives away for the alt-right with absolutely nothing in return. Sucks to be you, Alex. Maybe now you can learn what helplessness and despair feel like, and your actions during this entire process clearly demonstrate that it couldn't have happened to a more deserving asshole.
