Ron Johnson Commercial Filled With Lies, Blames Waukesha Parade Tragedy on "Radical Democrats"

Ron Johnson is a particularly unethical senator. He called for an increase in chip manufacturing in the United States while voting against legislation to do just that. He voted against cracking down on China for manipulating its currency. He voted against the Honoring Our PACT Act to provide hundreds of billions of dollars in benefits to veterans. He voted against the American Rescue Plan Act that shepherded America's economic recovery. He was the sole senator to try to hold up the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, which made Juneteenth a national holiday, and then tried to show up to a Juneteenth celebration just days later. He voted against the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and he is preparing to vote against the INFLATION REDUCTION ACT.

It's not just how he votes that makes Ron Johnson an unethical senator: it's what he says and does. He claimed that COVID-19 vaccines cause AIDS. He refused to fight to bring manufacturing contracts to Wisconsin, saying the state "has enough jobs." On a similar note, he celebrated the end of abortion services in Wisconsin and claimed people who didn't like it could move. He delivered Wisconsin's fake electors to Vice President Mike Pence on January 6th, 2021. He spent July 4th, 2018, in Moscow.

It makes sense, therefore, that his commercials would be unethical. Speaking of July 4th, Ron Johnson was forced to cancel a commercial that claimed "the last mass murder didn't happen with a gun" after the Highland Park Shooting in the Chicago suburb. This was apparently a reference to the Waukesha Parade Tragedy, which blatantly ignores the fact that he voted against the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which was a response to the mass shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde. In the immediate aftermath of the cowardly act of mass murder in Waukesha, Ron Johnson and Senator Tammy Baldwin both introduced a resolution urging people not to use the incident for political gain. That didn't last long: in his commercials, Ron Johnson pointed to the Waukesha Parade Tragedy as "evidence" that "radical Democrats" were creating the worst crime wave in decades.

Aside from violating the resolution he sponsored, Johnson's commercial appeared to make it seem like the Waukesha Parade murderer was motivated by his support for Black Lives Matter when the truth is it was for no reason aside from the fact that he is a lifelong scumbag criminal. He also conveniently ignored the fact that the increase in violent crime (while overall crime still decreased very slightly thanks to continued declines in nonviolent crime) began in 2020, when Donald Trump was president. Senator Johnson also claimed he was "fighting back" while voting against the American Rescue Plan Act, Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, and Omnibus Appropriations Act, 2022, which provided tens of billions of dollars in extra funding for law enforcement.

These votes as well as his stance on the January 6th insurrection make it clear that Ron Johnson doesn't care about violent crime. He said of the incident that left nine dead and 140 police officers injured that, "It wasn't an armed insurrection" and called it a peaceful protest while claiming he would have been worried if it were a Black Lives Matter invasion of the Capitol. This is the same Senator Ron Johnson whose chief complaint is that he "only" doubled his wealth while in office and whose only achievement was a bipartisan bill that passed the Senate unanimously. It has become abundantly clear that Ron Johnson's only concern is playing political games, not representing Wisconsin; the hateful lies he spews about crime are just one example. America's best state doesn't deserve its worst senator: we can change that by electing Mandela Barnes in November.
