The loss of your wife and infant daughter helped you appreciate a balance between family man and dedicated public servant. In this position, you would help engineer Senate action on the SALT II Treaty, stand up to Apartheid, preside over six Supreme Court confirmations (including those of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer), secure passage of the Brady Act and Assault Weapons Ban, lead American response to ethnic cleansing in Kosovo, and introduce the first climate change legislation in American history.

     You were an obvious choice for VP from 2009 to 2017, and the loss of your son Beau left you down but not out. In 2021, you were left the unenviable task of succeeding Donald Trump and restoring our nation's global respect by pulling us out of the worst pandemic and economic crisis in decades, securing a lasting peace in the Middle East, investing in our nation's neglected infrastructure and families, and meeting the moment with police reform, voting rights, LGBT2SQIA+ rights, climate action, and more.
