Ahead of the Proud Boys Sentencing, What Are the 12 Longest January 6th Sentences?

Over the course of the next week, the Proud Boys who organized and led the January 6th Capitol attack will be sentenced for their actions. The DOJ will be requesting 33 years in prison for Joseph Biggs and Enrique Tarrio of Florida, 30 years in prison for Zachary Rehl of Pennsylvania, 27 years in prison for Ethan Nordean of Washington, and 20 years in prison for Dominic Pezzola of New York. All of these sentences would be record-breaking, and I hope the judge will give at least close to what the DOJ is requesting. As of right now, however, here are the 12 longest sentences for the insurrection:

1. Stewart Rhodes, the leader of the Oath Keepers militia, was sentenced to 18 years (216 months) in prison for seditious conspiracy.

2. Peter Schwartz, a career criminal who assaulted law enforcement with pepper spray and a wooden stick, was sentenced to over 14 years (170 months) in prison.

3. Daniel Rodriguez, a longtime proponent of political violence who assaulted police in the tunnel, conspired with co-defendants to attack Congress, destroyed property, rummaged through a senator's office, and, most notably, tased Officer Michael Fanone, was sentenced to over 12.5 years (151 months) in prison after pleading guilty to four felonies.

4. Kelly Meggs, the Florida leader of the Oath Keepers, was sentenced to 12 years (144 months) in prison for seditious conspiracy.

5. Thomas Webster, a retired NYPD officer who tackled an officer and attempted to rip off his face mask and gouge his eyes, was sentenced to 10 years (120 months) in prison.

6. Jessica Watkins, an Ohio militia leader and high-ranking Oath Keepers affiliate, was sentenced to 8.5 years (102 months) in prison for obstructing law enforcement and conspiring to block Congress.

7. Albuquerque Head, a career criminal and white supremacist who joined in the tunnel push against law enforcement and pulled Michael Fanone from the tunnel, was sentenced to 7.5 years (90 months) in prison.

8. Patrick McCaughey, the Trump fanatic who crushed Officer Daniel Hodges in a doorframe, was sentenced to 7.5 years (90 months) in prison.

9. Salvador Sandoval, an Iowa man who pushed against three different law enforcement officers and attempted to disarm them in the Capitol rotunda, was sentenced to nearly 7.5 years (88 months) in prison.

10. Guy Reffitt, a Texas Three Percenter who galvanized the charge into the Capitol and pushed past law enforcement, was sentenced to 7.25 years (87 months) in prison.

11. Thomas Robertson, a former officer and military veteran who stockpiled weapons after his arrest, was sentenced to 87 months (7.25 years) in prison.

12. Kyle Fitzsimons, who assaulted four officers in the Lower West Terrace tunnel, including Sergeant Aquilino Gonell, was sentenced to 7.25 years (87 months) in prison.

Also worth mentioning is Jeremy Brown, a former Green Beret and congressional candidate who received 87 months not for what he did on January 6th, but for the weapons and classified document he was found in possession of when his home was searched. The Proud Boys leaders aren't the only big sentencings coming up. For example, the DOJ is requesting 14 years in prison for Proud Boy Christopher Worrell, who is on the run after being convicted of pepper spraying law enforcement. These punishments are what justice for January 6th looks like.
