Americans Should Rally to Stop A Vice President Vance

Sarah Palin is breathing a huge sigh of relief right now, because her legacy as the worst VP pick of the 21st century is fading by the hour. Donald Trump picked JD Vance with the goal of shoring up his MAGA base under the assumption that he would win easily against President Biden in November. When President Biden dropped out of the race earlier this month, the political world was altered dramatically, and the Democratic rally in support of Vice President Harris only served to bring more attention to JD Vance, who, as Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has said, is simply weird.

Vance's problems began in earnest two weeks ago, when Vance became the subject of rumors that he described having intercourse with a couch. Whether it's true or not is irrelevant in situations like this: the fact that it is so believable is enough to keep it going. AP fact-checked the claim before removing the fact check, because, as people have pointed out, it is impossible to prove a negative, namely that Vance did not have sex with a couch. His sexual proclivities came under further scrutiny when a tweet sent out while he was a sitting senator from Ohio appeared to show that he searched "woman dolphin" from his account.

His strange sex life is far from his only problem. As a person, he is simply impossible to like even if you agree with all of his positions. He went on a bizarre rant at a rally that his affinity for Diet Mountain Dew is considered by Democrats to be racist, which was met by crickets from the people in the audience. In a campaign video filmed for the Trump campaign, he is shown in a backroom that looks like something out of a snuff film or low-budget porn movie showing off the Snickers, chips, and soda that power the Trump campaign, which, again, is just weird. The fact that the Trump campaign spent presumably millions of dollars to run this ad is embarrassing.

Then there's JD's long history of problems with women. Racist and misogynistic attacks against his wife were met with little pushback from Vance, who simply stated that she was a "great mother." He didn't denounce the racism, instead seeming to say that his wife is "one of the good ones." He also never mentioned her characteristics as a human being or even as a wife. His view that women are only good for bearing children is sparking as much criticism as the couch story is sparking meming. In leaked audio, he was caught calling for action to prevent women in red states from crossing into blue states to get abortions. He is the author of the forward to a book by Project 2025 architects; Trump has tried to distance himself from Project 2025 and its ban on IVF and birth control. Most notably, he has repeatedly claimed that Kamala Harris and other women in politics are "childless cat ladies," sparking public feuds with celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, whom Vance then accused of being "creepy."

This is just the beginning of the list. He was once a never-Trumper who called Trump "political heroin" and "America's Hitler" as well as acknowledging that he is a sexual abuser. In a leaked email to his former classmate Sofia Nelson, Vance said, "I hate the police." He has a "burnt monkey testicle" problem: I won't go into details except to say he funded cruel experiments on animals. He was pictured in a Soviet t-shirt as well as passed out drunk in a corner in photos from his days in college. In blog posts from the 2000s, Vance wrote that he got emotional while watching Garden State and felt like a woman. Vance, who called a blog "a diary, only far more masculine," also questioned whether or not he was gay.

The majority of Americans have never heard of Vance. However, the more people get to know him, the less they like him. He has a net negative favorability rating of six points; the post-2000 average is +18 points, meaning Vance is performing 24 points worse than average. His favorability as a nominee is the worst of any vice president since 1980. Even Sarah Palin polled better than JD Vance does. How'd that work out for John McCain? You know, Donald, it's not too late.
