Kamala Harris' Campaign Already Shattering Records

The 2024 campaign has been the most historic in modern history. It started out as a rematch between President Biden and former president Donald Trump. Trump has been found liable for sexual abuse, defamation, and fraud, and, in May, he was convicted of 34 felony counts of falsification of business records; sentencing is set for September. Trump was shot in the ear at a campaign event in Pennsylvania in the first shooting of a president since 1981 in July, and, following a poor debate performance in late June, President Biden became the first incumbent president since 1968 to not seek re-election. He is also the first president in American history to bow out of the race after he had won his party's nomination, and I believe this will actually help the president's already-impressive legacy. His choice may be the most selfless political decision made by any political figure since George Washington set the two-term precedent in 1796.

In less than 48 hours, Vice President Harris has managed to secure the necessary delegates for her to become the Democratic Party nominee after President Biden endorsed her, and she's already secured the support of nearly every major Democratic political figure. Harris being the presumptive nominee makes the 2024 election the first since 1976 in which there will not be a Bush, Clinton, or Biden on the ballot. In a call led by black women, Harris mobilized nearly 50,000 volunteers for her campaign.

This is the most excitement Democrats have felt since November 2020, after President Biden beat Donald Trump. In just two days, Harris has nearly tripled the former Biden campaign's following on Twitter, growing it from 400,000 followers to well over a million. This is reflected in fundraising totals, as well. After Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died in September 2020, Democrats had their best stretch of fundraising in history, raising hundreds of millions of dollars in a single week. Vice President Harris is already breaking that record. July 21st was the best online fundraising day for Democrats in history, seeing over $66.9 million flood the campaign. July 22nd broke that record with a $67.2 million fundraising haul. The flood of support shows no signs of letting up as endorsements, volunteers, and funds continue to flood Democrats. In just two days, more than $250 million has reportedly been raised for Democrats up and down the ballot.

As endorsements continue to roll in, Vice President Harris holds her first campaign events, President Biden addresses the nation on his decision to step down, and excitement keeps swirling over her VP pick (the subject of a future post), I expect funds and volunteers to continue coming in at record amounts in the days and weeks to come. If she were elected president, Kamala Harris would be the first woman, first black woman, second black person, and first Asian-American elected president of the United States. We have a real chance and an obligation as Americans to elect Kamala Harris, to preserve the Democratic majority in the Senate, and to flip the House blue. In 2020, President Biden saved America from a second Trump term. Now is our moment to make history, to stop Donald Trump from tearing down American institutions and to help America grow.
