Kamala HQ Earns 3 Million TikTok Followers In 10 Days

The past few weeks have been the largest political earthquake the United States has experienced in decades. After President Biden dropped out of the race and focused on securing crucial victories like the largest hostage deal since the Cold War and proposing Supreme Court reform, Vice President Harris's presidential campaign got off to a running start.

On August 2nd, Harris officially clinched the delegates necessary to receive the Democratic nomination for president. The same day, Harris announced her campaign raised $310 million in the month of July, with nearly all of that coming in the last 10 days of the month. 60 percent of her donors are women, and the number of Gen-Z and Millennial donors was multiplied by nearly ten. Two-thirds of these donations were new grassroots donors. Harris tripled President Biden's following on Twitter, launched her first campaign ads, held a series of large events in swing states like Texas and Georgia, and scared Trump into chickening out of their September debate. In less than two weeks, she was able to not only eliminate his polling advantage and his cash advantage, but surpass his cash on hand by more than $50 million (a total of $377 million) while continuing to expand her reach.

The shift in vibes has been notable, from doom and gloom to optimism not unlike when President Obama was elected in 2008. TikTok is a perfect microcosm of this shift. In the first 24 hours of her campaign being on TikTok, she received over a million followers. TikTok had been a breeding ground for pro-Trump videos, with his presence on the app dwarfing that of the Biden-Harris campaign. Now, in just 10 days, Harris has garnered three million followers on the app.

There is still a lot of work to do. Trump has over nine million followers on the app, followers that he gained in two months. Now, we need to try to get Kamala's page past Trump's in terms of followers and views, and we only have three months to do it. TikTok is a crucial piece of technology in influencing the minds of young voters, and young voters will surely be crucial in defending American democracy from the existential threat posed by Donald Trump and his supporters.
