Trump Previously Praised and Promoted Harris and Walz. Now He Claims They're Dangerous.
One month ago today, as crazy as it seems that it has already been so long, Vice President Kamala Harris made the right decision and chose Tim Walz as her running mate. Two months from now, the 47th president of the United States will have been elected.
This cannot come as a total surprise for Kamala Harris. Way back in 2008 and 2009, black female figures like Gwen Ifill and Oprah Winfrey were comparing Kamala Harris to Barack Obama. When Harris ran for attorney general of California in 2010, Karl Rove pulled out all the stops to try to stop her election not because he cared so much about the state of California, but because he saw Kamala Harris as a rising national figure in the Democratic Party, and he wanted to kneecap her.
They were far from the only people to notice Kamala Harris long before she became the vice president of the United States. In 2011 and 2013, Donald Trump donated a combined total of $6,000 to Harris, which she, in turn, donated to advocate for civil rights for Central Americans. Believe it or not, it wasn't just Kamala Harris that Donald Trump previously praised and promoted.
In 2019, Donald Trump appointed Tim Walz to the bipartisan Council of Governors. In 2020, as riots emerged in Minneapolis in the wake of the murder of George Floyd, Trump was captured in audio praising Governor Walz for his handling of the crisis.
Now that Harris and Walz are atop the Democratic ticket in the 2024 election, Donald Trump is singing a different tune. In spite of the fact that he previously praised and promoted Harris and Walz, he is attacking them as "dangerous." Ads have been running criticizing Kamala Harris's record as DA. The funny thing about this is that Harris was DA before she was attorney general of California, so Donald Trump knew all about her record and still saw fit to support her. If Harris was a weak, liberal DA, then Donald Trump evidently supports weak, liberal DAs.
The attacks against Tim Walz have largely focused on his handling of the 2020 riots, with Trump sharing unhinged posts pinning blame for the events on Walz and Harris in spite of the fact that he appointed Walz to a position of greater power and praised his actions. Is anyone really surprised? In the weeks since President Biden dropped out and Vice President Harris surged, Trump has essentially given up on campaigning for president. He has sent JD Vance out to hold weird, low-energy rallies marked by failed attempts at basic human interaction.
Donald Trump is a convicted felon found liable for sexual abuse, defamation, and fraud who lied tens of thousands of times as president. Nothing that comes out of his mouth bears an ounce of credibility, and his attacks on Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are just more proof of that.
